Have a “TGIF” Happy Hour!

It’s Friday, time to do a little dance…your cocktail mixing dance…and get your groove on! Our lives are like a martini: Shaken or stirred and sometimes on the rocks, it always surprises us with a little twist. And by Friday, well, we all need a little relief!!

TGIF, time for a happy hour! Here is a great way to unwind and relax with some friends, right at home. Cast your cares away, leave them at the office, close the laptop. Surprise your friends with a cocktail that just says, “I am yours, you are mine,” and a fun atmosphere that just melts the worries away.

For your TGIF Happy Hour, the time will go effortlessly with just a little bit of planning!! Even impromptu happy hours should evoke just a little bit of panache. By handing your guests your signature cocktail the second they hit the door, you’ve got that down! And with a fabulous after work cocktail music playlist and easy appetizers done ahead of time, even the hostess or host can relax!

For the TGIF theme, it is fun to have a simple color palette. Paper napkins will do for this fete. Here, I have turquoise, lime green, carnation, and violet. TGIF party-ware by Lolita® is a fun addition!

I love doing an invitation for this happy hour! Any cocktail time invite will do, or do an e-vite…no RSVP necessary, just make sure you have enough food and drinks to serve the number of people you invite…that way, you are covered when someone brings a pal! This party is casual and meant to be a stop by!

Your drink should compliment your décor, and should be something that you KNOW everyone will like, so I have chosen the delicious Strawberry Sun cocktail. I use SMIRNOFF® flavored vodka as my vodka of choice…not only is it easier than creating or buying separate juices, it is the smoothest flavored vodka around.

I love to always have a focal point at any party. For TGIF, one 5’ table should suffice for food and drinks. Keep it simple! Mix your signature cocktail ahead of time, your appetizers, too. Keep ice on hand.

For a centerpiece, I like the giant martini glass idea, filled with snacks, such as blue corn tortilla chips with a dip nearby. Pretty napkins in the color palette and white appetizer plates are awesome. A few candles are nice. A bouquet of pink carnations, cut short and put in a small wide vase are a nice touch. I also love adding funky glassware, where you can mix and match shapes and colors to your hearts content!! Your bowls of drink garnishes will also add some fun to the table.

Purchase a chalkboard, yes, a chalkboard, and have chalk handy. Put the title: Why I am loving Friday….and have everyone write their biggest frustration of the week! A great conversation starter!

This would be an awesome party to bring out to the patio or balcony as well!

And as always, drink responsibly. Have the phone number of a cab company handy!

Strawberry Sun

  • 1.5 oz SMIRNOFF® Strawberry Flavored Vodka
  • 1 oz. pineapple juice
  • .5 oz. orange juice
  • 3 oz. lemon-lime soda

Shake the first 3 ingredients in a shaker with ice. Strain into an ice filled Collins glass. Top with the lemon-lime soda and stir. Garnish with a strawberry and a lime peel.

*For this party, mixing the Strawberry Sun ahead of time is fine! Just multiply this recipe by the number of drinks, and voila, you have enough in a pitcher ready to go!!! Add your garnishes before serving.
