Refined Relaxation, the Lolita Way!

In my last entry I talked about Lolita-izing your New Year’s Resolutions. When you add style and elegance to your life, it makes a huge impact on your overall well-being!

Another New Year’s Resolution I made was to relax more this year.

One of my favorite things to do to relax is to take a nice long bubble bath. I turn off the lights, turn on some relaxing music, and light up some candles.

What could make a moment like that even more relaxing?? How about adding a little style and refinement to it!

Lolita-ize your relaxing moment!

A Fresh (and Stylish) Take On New Year’s Resolutions

We all go through the same thing every year… a new year starts and we try to change ourselves and our lifestyles in dramatic ways. You see all these articles “NEW YEAR, NEW YOU!” and you see hope on the horizon.

Let’s be honest with ourselves though… these changes never really stick.

I’ve thought of a new, fresh take on New Year’s resolutions. One that I think will have much more OOMPH! in your life than just a boring, general resolution!

Think of it as the Lolita way of doing things. What Would Lolita Do?

Take your boring resolutions and spice them up a bit! Add a stylistic twist to every resolution you make! Make your resolutions Lolita-ized!

For example, instead of I’m going to exercise more this year, turn it into I’m going to exercise in style this year.

You’ll be shocked at how much taking the time to care about your appearance will have an effect on the success of your resolutions! If you feel stylish and confident while working out, you are more likely to work out because you now have a positive outlook towards it! Viola!

After all, every woman likes to feel pretty, sexy, and confident in every thing that she does!

Start small and before you know it, you’ll be one stylin’ woman who is totally in shape!

Here are some of my picks for a stylish work out experience:

Give Your Skin A Refresher!

Summer can take a serious toll on our skin.

A lot of us are exercising outdoors more, going to the beach, and just spending more time outdoors in the sun in general!

Summer is now coming to a close, and I always like to refresh after each season!

This is a super easy and yummy-smelling scrub that my friend shared with me. I love it!!

It’s the perfect pick-me-up for your skin.

Lolita’s Lime Scrub

Two limes

4 tablespoons coconut oil (I LOVE coconut oil! So good for your skin!)

1. Squeeze limes. Combine the juice with the brown sugar until it is free of lumps.

2. Add oil 1 tablespoon at a time to thicken.

3. While in the shower, apply it all over your body in circles. When done, rinse, and enjoy your “new” skin!

We all have our own beauty tips and tricks. This scrub is one of mine. What’s one of yours? Comment and tell me! I’d love to add it to my beauty recipe book!

Have Your Own Lolita Moment!

Lolita Web Store DownWe NEED a Lolita moment, so we’ve stepped out for a glass of wine!

We won’t be able to fulfill orders on the web store (starting today, August 13th) until Friday, August 16th.

Until then, why don’t you go ahead and have a Lolita moment for yourself?

Be selfish- a little me-time never hurt anyone!

If you have kids, have them sleepover at a friend’s house. And go ahead and tell your significant other that you need a night without them. If they love you, they’ll understand!

Once you’re alone, put on your favorite music, pour your favorite drink, and try this super yummy and light dinner recipe for one from Martha Stewart. It’s absolutely delicious!

Sesame Shrimp and Noodles For One

Coarse Salt

Ground Pepper

2 ounces thin spaghetti

2 tablespoons orange marmalade

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil

1/2 teaspoon red-wine vinegar

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

6 ounces medium shrimp

1 small yellow bell pepper, cut into 1/4-inch strips

2 scallions, thinly sliced

1. In a medium pot of boiling salted water, cook spaghetti until al dente, according to package instructions. Drain; return to pot.

2. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk together marmalade, soy sauce, oil, vinegar, and ginger. Season with salt and pepper. Add shrimp, bell pepper, and scallions; toss to combine. Transfer to a rimmed (or toaster oven) baking sheet, and spread in a single layer.

3. Heat broiler (or toaster oven). Broil, 4 inches from heat source, until shrimp are opaque throughout, about 3 minutes. Transfer contents of baking sheet to pot; toss with pasta to combine.

4. Pour onto your favorite dish or into your favorite bowl, put your feet up, and enjoy your me-time!

After that delicious meal (my mouth is watering just thinking about it!), it’s time for a bubble bath.

I found this super easy bubble bath recipe on http://www.realsimple.com and have used it several times since then! It’s so relaxing.

Foaming Vanilla-Honey Bath

In a clean container, mix together 1 cup light oil (almond, sunflower, or canola), 1/2 cup honey, 1/2 cup mild liquid hand or body soap, and 1 tablespoon vanilla extract. To use, shake gently to remix and pour 1/4 cup under the running water as your fill the tub. This recipe yields about 16 ounces, or enough for 8 baths.

Light some candles, turn off the lights, pop a bottle of your favorite wine (and maybe bring along a bar of dark chocolate!), and hop in!

This is YOUR time! Enjoy it!

Cheers!

Shopaholics Unite!

Designs By Lolita CA#8CAAB0I once played a game at a business meeting where each person was asked a question that would say a lot about who they were. I was intrigued.

The question was “What is in the trunk of your car?”  Supposedly, what you keep with you in the trunk says a lot about your personality.

Guys and gals raised eyebrows and you could tell some didn’t want to say (dead bodies?) but all participated.  I was a little concerned about how people would perceive my answer. After all, I am Lolita and I always try to make a good impression,  I am a designer and know how to create beautiful things that women love and enjoy. How can I tell them the truth? That I don’t keep all my beautiful designs and sketches and art supplies in my car? That it’s not full of my products, or my latest canvas? It’s a devil on my shoulder kind of answer; I thought…should I really go there???

So around the table we went. One guy keeps only an umbrella and an ice scraper (a little bit of a minimalist); the next lady kept only an emergency kit (fearful but prepared); the next person, a gym bag, a case of water, aftershave and a towel (obsessed with himself.) One even kept emergency snacks (in case of that roadside hunger pang.) One young mother said “Stroller, booster seat and a playpen, extra diapers” and a change of clothes for herself (wants to look good even if the baby throws up on her shirt.) The person next to me? Stuff for charity. Ugh.

The moderator got to me…So, Lolita, what is in the trunk of your car?  I could feel the color rise on my face. “Returns,” I said meekly, with a slightly embarrassed smile. The room erupted in laughter.

That says everything there is pretty much to know about me. I am a confessed shopaholic. I am drawn to beautiful things just as I create them…colors, textures, BRANDS, sales…and am privy to the guilt that goes with buying things sometimes. I love to shop…the adrenalin rush that I get just pulling up to my favorite stores! I love the driving even getting there, music blaring.

There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t have a return in the trunk of my car…sometimes, that top just isn’t right, or maybe it was the mirror at the store that made it look better, or, it was too expensive or I don’t really love it (my new philosophy…I only buy it if I absolutely, unequivocally love it). Problem is, I love a lot of things! Or, do I really need that new picture frame…individual salt and pepper shakers for my table? I really do.

So ladies, enjoy the shopping. But don’t hesitate to return things, too. It feels great either way! And ask a person, if you want to get to know them a little better, what’s in the trunk of their car.

Oh, and my Shopaholic glass design, well, I designed it with myself in mind.  And don’t forget the Shop – A – Holiday, when your done shopping for the Holiday, relax with your Shop-A-Holiday glass.  Cheers!

How To: Shop With Your Guy Without Going Insane!

Designs By Lolita Blog Men SHopping

There are many differences in men and women, as we will all agree. The “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” guy is totally right!

Cognitive abilities are just one area where there are big differences. Girls, even as babies, have been shown to gaze at pretty things longer than boys. Later, they rely on landmarks and memory for guidance.

Boys have a proven better visual/spatial ability such as aiming at stationary or moving targets and detecting minor movements in their visual fields.

This explains why most men don’t like to shop.

If it’s sitting on a rack and doesn’t move, men will ignore it and want to move on to the next thing right away. Picture your guy in a department store. Hands in pockets, tapping his foot, looking all around, if not standing right behind you breathing over your shoulder. Sound familiar? Anxious, uncomfortable, and quite frankly, bored and wants to move on, quickly!

We girls, on the other hand…we can gaze lovingly through an XS through L sales rack of name brand tops, patiently ensuring that our size isn’t mixed in somewhere with the gorgeous top we found in XS that is the perfect shade of red. The perfect recipe for driving the male sex insane!

So, relax if you shop with your guy. He may have wanted to go, to please his sexy lady…but his behavior, if he is a normal male, is not likely to make sense after his endearing overture to go shopping with you…

So, send him on his way. He’s not doing it on purpose. Just agree to meet up in an hour, or two for that romantic glass of wine. And, if he wants to go to Home Depot or Best Buy on the way home, reward him for his patience!
