Why I Believe “Wine Wednesday” Should Happen Every Wednesday

1960097_10151887512221791_1574979138_n

The word wine starts with “w” and so does Wednesday–so why not combine the two?! Wednesday is the halfway point of the week, otherwise known as “hump day”. Usually for me at the end of a Wednesday, I sit on my couch and open up a bottle of wine. That bottle gives me the motivation I need to finish the last stretch of my long week. It’s like a trophy of almost making it to the weekend.

It seems that almost every Wednesday I have my feet propped up with a glass of wine in my hand. So I’ve started to establish my Wednesdays as “Wine Wednesdays”. When I wake up that morning (dreading I still have two more days until the weekend) I realize that a bottle of wine will be waiting for me at home because it is Wine Wednesday! It makes the day a little more bearable!

I’ve made it my own little tradition. It’s nice to have only simple decisions when I come home from a long hump day, those being “Red or White?” and “Which Lolita Wine Glass should I use?” So tonight, I will be doing just that and I highly suggest that you do the same!

Travel to Your Favorite Place Without Leaving Your House!

Take your guests to your home state, city, or just your favorite place with a fun themed party! Whether or not you live there, it is so much fun to set up a party using the unique qualities and styles from your chosen place.

For example, if you are celebrating Tennessee (using my new Tennessee Wine Glass of course!), decorate with Elvis mementos (a classic Elvis cutout would do!), guitars, and string lights. Tennessee is a state known for its music—therefore, play some B.B. King, Elvis, or your favorite country music. Justin Timberlake is from Tennessee, that counts too right?! Also don’t forget to serve what Tennessee is especially famous for, BBQ… and maybe even Elvis’ favorite fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches!

Of course, this Tennessee party is only just a reference to help you to throw your own Favorite Place Celebration. These parties are easy and also don’t require costumes! Check out all of our “Favorite Places” glasses to see where you can take your friends without having to leave your house!

Paradise in a Glass

Kick off the summer right with my favorite summer martini recipe! This drink goes perfectly with my Hibiscus Martini Glass or Hawaii Wine Glass, along with a waterfront view and a sunset. It’s a great addition for an outdoor party or just simply lounging the day away. I remember first trying this recipe in Hawaii, and now every time I use it I think of the beach bar with the beautiful hibiscus flowers surrounding me. Be sure to try the recipe and let me know what you think! Xo, Lolita

Say Goodbye To 2013 with STYLE! (And a glass or two of wine…)

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe 2013 is almost over!! Where does the time go?!

Tonight is New Year’s Eve, one of my favorite nights of the year! A new year is about to start, and we are going to ring it in with a bang!

Vintage Gold Filigreed Pants

Vintage Gold Filigreed Pants & Belt

My Outfit!

My Outfit!

When thinking about an outfit for tonight, at first I thought I would get a dress… but I was pleasantly surprised when I found these AMAZING vintage gold filigreed pants! I also bought a vintage belt to go with them!

This outfit has sparkle and elegance- perfect for New Year’s Eve!

Isn’t it to die for?! So retro and so elegant- love it!

My girls are with their friends tonight, so me and my hubby are having some friends over! It’s the adults turn to play! It’s going to be a wonderful couples’ night, full of lots of alcohol and lots of laughs!

Also, for New Years, rather than a fancy sit down dinner, I love more elegant hors d’oeuvres, like Duck Nachos. They are soo yummy! My mouth is watering just thinking about them… I NEED to get cooking now!

Duck Nachos

Duck Nachos! Yum!!

Here is the recipe for the duck nachos I’ll be making tonight:

Duck Nachos:

1 package wonton wrappers or eggroll wrappers
1 bottle of Hoison Sauce
½ cups Brown sugar
½ cup Orange Juice
½ cup Maraschino Cherry Syrup (can use from a bottle of cherries)
Olive Oil
2 Duck Breasts
Manchego Cheese or other Mild, crumbly cheese such as mild feta
½ cup chopped scallions

Take two breasts of duck and coat with brown sugar, orange juice and maraschino cherry syrup and place in a plastic bag.

In a large non-stick skillet full with at least 2 inches of olive oil. Bring to medium heat.

Take wonton wrappers or egg roll wrappers cut into halves and fry just until they’re puffy. Then take them out and place them on a piece of paper towel to drain.

While the wontons drain, place the duck breasts skin side down into the pan for 7 minutes. Flip over and cook for another 7 minutes.

Spread wontons on a cookie sheet, then slice the duck breast against the grain and place on wontons with the marinade left over in the pan. Pour warm Hoison sauce over the duck and top off with scallions and Manchego cheese.

Bake at 300 degrees for about 10-15 minutes and serve.

Lolita Sparkling Wine

My Sparkling wine!

Also, thinking about Sparkling Wine versus champagne, a fresh twist on an old favorite. I of course love the Lolita Winter Sparkling which is pink in tone but velvety, not sweet.

Ask your local wine expert for some suggestions.

Finally… DECORATING!

Decorate with metallics…go to a bargain outlet and look for metallic curtains for tablecloths, or buy metallic gauzey fabric and layer. You can leave your metallic ornaments out for a really festive look. I like silver and pearl!

Calla Lillies are also an awesome addition as they last a long time and are white and sophisticated.

Okay, now it’s time for me to start getting ready!

I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL New Year’s Eve and a wonderful New Year’s Day tomorrow!

Reflect back on the past year and all that you have accomplished! And don’t forget to fill up a glass (to the rim!!) and cheers to YOU!

Cheers!!!

I always love meeting my fans and hearing what they have to say about my designs.

Feedback from YOU is what helps me and my artists come up with new designs for glasses!

Every season, we go through all the feedback and ideas that you have given us and come up with new ideas.

After we have a list of design ideas together, we all vote on which ones we like the best.

I have decided that I would LOVE my fans to vote for which glasses they like the best too!

At Ivy Lane, I unveiled my new Halloween designs for this season.

Here they are on the shelf:

Say Farewell to Summer with a Sangria Party!

Lolita Sangria

It’s September, which means summer is officially coming to an end.

While we all hate to see it go, it does just give us another reason to celebrate!

So why not celebrate the Lolita way, with a big sangria party!

I have a delicious sangria recipe (which uses my wine!) for you to try out:

Loltia’s Sparkling Summer Sangria

1 bottle Lolita’s Sparkling Aglianico (or your favorite sparkling wine)

1 cup coconut vodka (or to taste; can also use rum)

16 ounces mango juice

2 cups cranberry juice

1/2 cup each sliced strawberries, pineapple chunks, lemon and lime wheels, blueberries

Mix all ingredients and place in refrigerator overnight. Stir and serve. Serves 12.

The next question is: what do I serve with?

I have hosted quite a few sangria parties in the past. I like to make them laid back and casual, with lots of dancing of course! Because of this, I’ve had a few guests break some of my glasses.

To avoid breakage, I recommend acrylic pitchers and glasses for this event!

My acrylic pitchers are absolutely perfect for holding large amounts of sangria, and make it super easy to pour!

Acrylic Pitcher with Sangira

And don’t forget to get matching acrylic wine glasses! Coordination is key!

After you’ve picked out all the right drinking “accessories” it’s time to get cooking!

I have two favorite summer-time recipes, here they are:

Smoked Salmon Crudites with Herbed Cheese

36 small crudites wafers (available at a supermarket bakery or deli department)

Smoked salmon, cut into 36 1-inch squares

4 ounces cream cheese

1 tablespoon Greek seasoning (Cavender’s brand recommended)

Capers

36 thinly sliced red pepper slivers in 1-inch lengths

1. Mix seasoning and cream cheese.

2. Spread cream cheese over crudites.

3. Top with smoked salmon, capers, and red pepper slivers as garnish.

Serves 12

Steak with Blue Cheese Crumbles

30 Athens Fillo (Phyllo) Dough Mini Shells (available in the freezer section of supermarket)

2-pound flank steak

Crumbled blue cheese

Arugula sprigs

1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce

1/2 cup soy sauce

1/2 cup olive oil

1. Marinate flank steak overnight in Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and olive oil.

2. Two hours before serving, defrost phyllo shells at room temperature and assemble on a platter.

3. Grill or broil steak 6 minutes per side or until center is pink. Slice across the grain in 1/3 inch slices, then slice again into 1-inch steak pieces.

4. Place one piece in each shell. Top with blue cheese crumbles and a sprig of arugula.

Can be served hot or cold. Serves 12

I would also suggest a salad and some fruit (maybe even a sorbet?) to keep things light!

Put together a playlist of summer-time hits to keep everyone is a fun, happy, summer mood! Enjoy dancing and laughing and having a great time saying good-bye to summer!

You might be having so much fun that you’ll forget the season is almost over!

Do you have a special sangria or summer recipe you’d like to share with me? I’d love to hear about it! Comment below and tell me! 🙂

Cheers!
